About Myanmar Fisheries

Union of Myanmar has a long coastline 2382 kilometers. The swamp is approximately 0.5 million hectres that provides very good base for the development of shrimp and prawn culture. There are plenty of inland water sources such as natural lakes, reservoirs, river system et.c which vover about 8.2 million hectres. Howeve, the research shows that the actual farming areas are one thousand hectares.For the time being, it is noted that seventy thousand tons of fish and prawn are being produced annually by flood fisheries. Inland fisheries would able to provide better opporrtunities for increasing Myanmar's fish production with the intention of giving satisfactory to the higher demand.
